Choosing the correct leader material might feel like a minefield, but here at Airflo we've made it easy for you. Fluorocarbon tippet has low visibility underwater, making it a preferred choice in clear water conditions where fish may be more wary. It is also denser than water, causing it to sink - this makes it the ideal choice for fishing subsurface with nymphs, buzzers or lures. Fluorocarbon generally exhibits higher abrasion resistance than monofilament, making it a robust choice when fishing in environments with obstacles or structures that could lead to line abrasion.
Monofilament (nylon) is slightly more visible underwater, suitable for situations where visibility is not a concern such as coloured or running water. Monofilament leaders tends to be more buoyant than fluorocarbon, making it perfectly suited for dry fly fishing, allowing it to ride high on the water presentating your dry flies perfectly.
